Event Horizon I

Event Horizon I (The Beginning According to John)

This piece focuses on the opening line of the Gospel of St John and the transformations that it has suffered through time. One misunderstanding that arose concerning Greek articles, predicate nominative and grammatical word order, which contributed to several different translations of it. Particularly on the sentence θεὸς ἦν ὁ λόγος, literally “God was the Logos,” or “God was the Word”. Grammatically, the phrase could read either “the Word was God” or “the Word was a god.”

The definite articles THE and indefinite articles A have been extracted and isolated, left floating on the page. This simple grammar tool encapsulates a pivotal step in the changing of human consciousness, and the final stage in the process of cultures that went from polytheism to monotheism.
